Description
Small, narrow growing deciduous tree (H 6-8 m, W 1,5-2 m). Crown narrowly conical to egg-shaped. Bark dark grey, smooth, later longitudinaly lightly fissured. Leaves ovate (5-10 cm), with a finely serrate margin, light green, autumn colour yellow. Male and female flowers separate, on the same plant; male flowers yellow, in hanging catkins, female green. Flowering period: April. Fruits hard dry nutlets, winged (3 cm). Ripening time: October. Undemanding, tough, long-lived tree. Easily withstands drought, wind, heat, short periods of flooding, urban conditions and pruning. Suitable also for formal hedges.
