Description
Large, upright, bushy, broad, deciduous tree (H 25-35 m, W 10-20 m). Crown rounded to broadly spherical, dense, eventually irregular. Bark on young shoots slightly hairy, grey-green to grey, later dark grey. Branches upright to widely spreading, later eventually slightly hanging. Leaves simple, broadly ovate (8-16 cm), with a finely serrate margin, rough, dark green, autumn colour yellow. Flowers not remarkable, light green. Flowering period: March-April. Fruits flattened, round (1,5 cm), brown. Requires always moderately moist, deep, fertile, loose soils, also on lime. Easily withstands urban conditions and wind. A tough species, more adaptable than other elms, withstands also short periods of flooding.
