Description
Small, upright, slow growing, evergreen tree, conifer (H 6-10 m, W 4-6 m). Bark red-brown to grey-brown, scaly. Crown at first broadly pyramidal, eventually irregular, open; later flattened rounded. Branches widely spreading to horizontal. Needles (3-7 cm) pointed, in pairs, spiraly twisted, young needles yellow-green, in summer green, in winter vivid gold-yellow. Flowers in sepparated male and female cones on the same plant. Flowering period: April-May. Seed cones (5-7 cm), elongate, dark grey-brown, with pointed scales. Very tolerant of frost, wind and heat.
