Description
Small, broad, upright, deciduous ornamental tree (H 6-8 m, W 4-6 m). Crown broadly spherical to fen-shaped, dense. Leaves ovate (6-12 cm), dark green, autumn colour yellow to orange-red. Flowers simple, star-shaped (3-4 cm), flower buds pink, open flowers snow white, center dark pink. Flowering period: March-April. Fruits globose (up to 0,8 cm), fleshy, red-black; rare. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Needs light, fertile and moderately moist soils. Prunus × yedoensis is of an older Japanese origin, most likely a result of crossing between Prunus speciosa and P. pendula f. ascendens.
