Description
Large, bushy deciduous tree (H 20-25 m, W 12-15 m). Crown broadly oval, at maturity rounded to broadly dome-shaped. Branches open. Bark grey, smooth. Young shoots slightly wooly, green to grey-green. Leaves broadly ovate (6-15 cm), with a long, narrowly pointed tip, slightly hairy, with a serrate margin, dark green, autumn colour yellow. Flowers not remarkable. Fruits globose (1 cm), fleshy, dark red to dark violet-brown, edible raw. Ripening time: October-November. Undemanding, long-lived tree. Requires deep, well-drained soils and sunny, warm, sheltered sites.
