Description
Large, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 12-20 m, W 8-10 m). Bark dark orange-brown to grey-brown, fissured. Crown rounded, at maturity characteristically umbrella-shaped. Young shoots yellow-green. Buds conicaly egg-shaped, brown, not resinous. Branches wide open to horizontal. Needles (10-20 cm) straight, pointed, in pairs, light green, po obeh straneh with lighter stripes. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (8-15 cm), round, hard, heavy, dark brown. Seeds edible, with a hrad coat. Requires well-drained soils. Easily withstands drought and heat.
