Description
Small, broad, often multi-stemmed, slow growing evergreen tree, conifer (H 6-9 m, W 5-8 m). Bark orange-brown to red-brown, flaky, ornamental. Crown broad, rounded to umbrella-shaped, irregular, open, picturesque. Branches upright to widely spreading, densely branched. Young shoots light reddish. Buds egg-shaped, slightly resinous. Needles (8-10 cm) pointed, in pairs, thin, soft, bright to light green. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (4-7 cm), elongate egg-shaped, yellow brown. Requires dry, well-drained soils.
