Description
Large, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 15-25 m, W 3-5 m). Bark orange-brown to red-brown, flaky. Crown broad, irregularly ovoid to rounded. Branches somehow hanging. Young shoots orange-red to grey-brown, rough. Buds egg-shaped, red-brown. Needles (2-5 cm) firm, twisted, prominent, pointed, in pairs, dark yellow-green to green. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (5-10 cm), elongate egg-shaped, light brown to green-brown. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils.
