Description
Large, broad, slow growing deciduous tree (H 8-16 m, W 5-10 m). Crown conical to egg-shaped, later broadly spherical. Bark on young shoots smooth, later with longitudinal cracks, dark grey. Leaves elongate oval, with a finely, double toothed margin, with remarkable veins, dark green, autumn colour yellow. Flowers and green inflorescens, male and female flowers separate. Flowering period: April. Fruits cone-like, soft, scales swollen, with seeds inside. Ripening time: September. A rather tough tree species, prefers to grow in warm, dry sites. Easily withstands pruning, heat, drought and urban conditoins.
