Description
Small, widely spreading deciduous tree (H 6-8 m, W 6-8 m). Crown broadly spherical. Bark dark grey-brown. Leaves broadly heart-shaped to round (8-14 cm), smooth, at first bright red to red-violet, in summer dark violet to dark brown-red, autumn colour dark red. Flowers numerous, in small dense inflorescence, pea-like (1 cm), bright lilac-pink. Flowering period: April-May. Fruits dry, thin, elongated pods (6-8 cm), dark brown, persist on the branches into winter. It grows well in sufficiently drained soils, in distinctly sunny sites. Easily withstands urban conditions, heat and drought.
