Description
Large, broad, moderately growing, deciduous tree (H 12-18 m, W 7-10 m). Crown conical, later ovate to round. Bark dark grey, smooth, later longitudinaly lightly fissured. Leaves ovate (5-10 cm), with a finely serrate margin; young leaves intensely red to coppery-brown, later light to mid-green; autumn colour yellow. Male and female flowers separate, on the same plant; male flowers yellow, in hanging catkins, female green. Flowering period: April. Fruits hard dry nutlets, winged (3 cm). Ripening time: October. Undemanding, tough, long-lived tree. Easily withstands drought, wind, heat, short periods of flooding, urban conditions and pruning.
