Description
Small, upright, broad, slow growing deciduous tree, eventually large, bushy shrub (H 6-10 m, W 5-7 m). Crown broadly pyramidal. Branches horizontal, later slightly hanging. Bark dark grey, roughly fissured. Young shoots grey-green, slightly sticky. Leaves ovate (5-10 cm) deeply dissected into 3-4 very narrow, linear leaflets, dark green. Flowers not remarkable; male flowers in hanging yellow-brown catkins (5 cm), female flowers ovate (up to 0,5 cm), reddish. Flowering period: March. Fruits ovate (1,5-2 cm), cone-like, woody, black-brown. Undemanding tree, it grows well in different soil-types, even poor and sandy; normally withstands urban conditions, polution, wind and occasional flooding.
