Description
Small, broad, slow growing deciduous tree (H 6-10 m, W 5-6 m). Crown broadly pyramidal, open. Bark bright orange-red to light coppery-brown, glossy, it peels off decoratively in large, horizontal strips. Young shoots brown-red. Branches upright to widely spreading, slightly hanging. Leaves ovate (6-8 cm), more narrow than those of the species, with a pointed tip, with a double serrate margin, bright dark green, with glandular hairs underneath; autumn colour bright golden-yellow. Flowers tiny, in hanging yellow-green inflorescence, catkins. Flowering period: April. Undemanding tree, adaptable to different soils, withstands occasional drought and urban conditoins.
