Description
Large, upright, fast growing evergreen tree, conifer (H 15-20 m, W 8-12 m). Crown at first broadly conical, later ovate to broadly spherical, irregular. Branches wide open to horizontal, with prominent tips. Bark grey, roughly flaky. Needles short (1,8-2,5 cm), in dense bundles of 20 or more, thin, ostro pointed, smooth, light grey-blue to dark blue-green. Male and female flowers separate, male flowers in large catkins, yellow-brown. Flowering period: September-October. Cones dark green to brown, broad-oval, with wide, thin scales, fall apart while still on the tree. A tough, long-lived tree, normally withstands urban conditions, cold, heat and drought.
