Description
Small, semi-prostrate, dense, evergreen shrub (H 0,2-0,4 m, W 0,2-0,3 m). Stems upright to semi-prostrate, with several leaves. Leaves 3-5 in a whorle, needle-like (up to 0,5 cm), swolen, with obtuse tip, smooth, glossy, bright dark green. Flowers tiny, not remarkable. Fruits globose (up to 1 cm), fleshy, juicy, glossy, black. Edible raw, tart. Ripening time: August-September. Attracts birds. Grows well in light, always moderately moist, acidic, humus-rich soils and sunny to half-shady sites.
