Description
Medium-sized, upright deciduous tree (H 12-15 m, W 5-7 m). Crown broadly conical to rounded, regular. Bark on young shoots light grey, dense white hairy; later grey, lightly fissured. Leaves simple, broadly ovate (8-12 cm), with a serrate margin; at first white felty, later dark green above, slightly glossy, underneath white felty. Flowers in clusters, simple, cup-shaped (1-1,5 cm), white. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits globose (1-1,2 cm), fleshy, light orange-red. Ripening time: August-September. To be used fresh, for juicing or for cooking and making jams. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Requires warm, sunny sites; undemanding species, normally withstands heat, drought, wind and urban conditoins.
