Description
Small, slow growing, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 3-6 m, W 1-1,8 m). Bark dark brown-grey, flaky. Crown conical to egg-shaped. Branches open. Young shoots thin, red-brown, slightly hairy. Buds broadly oval, rusty brown, somehow resinous. Needles (4-10 cm) pointed, in fives, straight, slightly spiraly twisted, outer side green, inner side light grey-blue. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (10-25 cm), elongate egg-shaped, yellow-brown to rusty-brown, resinous. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils.
