Description
Medium-sized, bushy, upright, slow growing deciduous shrub (H 1-2 m, W 1,5-2,5 m). Bark light brown, branches upright to open. Leaves with long petioles, deeply pinnately compound (15-25 cm), with a slightly serrate margin, smooth, at first dark red to pink-red, later dark green above, underneath light grey-green to blue-green. Flowers large, simple, cup-shaped (15-20 cm), pink to light pink, eventually with dark red spots at the base of the petioles. Flowering period: May. Needs deep, well-drained, moderately moist soils. Paeonia suffruticosa is also a general name for the tree (shrubby) peonies and their varieties.
