Description
Medium-sized, bushy deciduous tree (10-12 m, W 5-7 m). Crown broadly ovate to rounded, regular, dense. Branches upright to widely spreading. Bark grey-brown to green-brown, later dark grey-brown, smooth to slightly fissured. Leaves broadly ovate (8-10 cm), pinnately dissected, above above, dark green, underneath white-grey, densely hairy; autumn colour yellow to dark orange-yellow. Flowers in clusters (10 cm), simple, cup-shaped (1 cm), cream white. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits in clusters, round (1-1,2 cm), fleshy, orange-red. Ripening time: August-September. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding tree, normally withstands drought, strong wind, urban conditions and polution. Sorbus intermedia is a cross between S. aria and S. aucuparia.
