Description
Large, broad, slow-growing, relatively hardy (min. -12 °C), evergreen shrub (H 5-7 m, W 4-6 m). Crown ovate, dense. Leaves narrowly ovate (4-10 cm), leathery, smooth, glossy, green to olive-green. Flowers in clusters (up to 10 cm), tiny, pitcher-like (0,7 cm), white, eventually with a pink hue. Flowering period: September-December. Fruits globose (1-2 cm), fleshy, rough, orange-yellow to bright red, ornamental, edible. Ripening time: September-November in the second year. It grows well in sufficiently drained, partly sandy, loose humus-rich soils and a sheltered position, protected from drying winter winds. Needs some winter protection (mulch).
