Description
Large, fast growing, frost tolerant, semi-evergreen to evergreen climber (H 4-6 m, W 1-2 m). Leaves palmate (10-15 cm), 3-5-lobed, smooth, green. Flowers large, star-shaped (up to 10 cm); large, lanceolate, outer petals bright violet, light red-violet to lilac; inner thin, thread-like petals blue-violet; anthers and stigmas in centre, remarkably large. Flowering period: May-September, mostly sterile flowers. Fruits rare, without seeds. Attracts butterflies and bees. Grown as a container-plant, needs light, humus-rich, very nutrient-rich and well-drained soils. Requires a sunny and sheltered site. The variety is an American hybrid between Passiflora 'Amethyst' and P. caerulea.
