Description
Small, upright, fast growing deciduous tree (H 6-8 m, W 4-5 m). Stems brown, hairy, with short thorns. Leaves ovate (15-20 cm), pinnately compound, leaflets egg-shaped to broad-oval (2-3 cm), smooth, dark green. Flowers in hanging racemes (up to 15 cm), pea-like (2 cm), bright pink to bright lilac-pink. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits elongate flat pods (4-6 cm), brown, glabrous. Easily withstands heat and urban conditoins. Hybrid Robinia × margaretta, named also R. × slavinii, is a result of crossing between R. hispida var. kelseyi and R. pseudoacacia.
