Description
Medium-sized, bushy, widely spreading deciduous shrub (H 2-3 m, W 2,5-3,5 m). Crown broadly spherical, dense. Branches broadly open to horizontal, young shoots characteristically hairy. Leaves broadly ovate (6-12 cm), ribbed, with a serrate margin, dark green, autumn colour bright red to dark violet-red. Flowers numerous, in large, slightly dome-shaped inflorescence (12 cm), simple (1-2 cm), yellowish-white to white; tiny fertile flowers in center, larger sterile flowers around the edge. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits ovate (0,8 cm), fleshy, red. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Needs deep, fertile, always moderately moist, but well-drained soils; grows well under trees and shrubs, in half-shade.
