Description
Small, broad, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 2-4 m, W 2-4 m). Bark light orange-brown to dark grey, deeply fissured. Crown broad, rounded, dense. Branches open to horizontal. Young shoots grey-green. Buds elongate-conical. Needles (12-25 cm) pointed, in bundles of 3, stiff, grey-green to blue-green, with a pleasant, fruity-resinous scent when crushed. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (12-24 cm), elongate, at first dark grey-violet, ripe light brown. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils.
