Description
Large, slow growing evergreen shrub, conifer (H 3-5 m, W 5-7 m). Bark dark violet-brown to grey-brown, flaky. Crown broad, irregular, picturesque. Branches upright, wide open to horizontal, forming separate, individual parts of crown. Needles (4-6 cm) spiraly twisted, pointed, in fives, outer side blue-green, inner side light grey-blue. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (4-7 cm), egg-shaped, dark grey to red-brown, scales wide. Requires sufficiently drained, but always moist soils.
