Description
Large, upright evergreen tree, conifer (H 20-25 m, W 5-7 m). Bark reddish-brown to grey, flaky to fissured. Crown broadly conical to rounded, open, later flattened, irregular, picturesque. Branches widely spreading to hanging. Young shoots light reddish. Buds egg-shaped, slightly resinous. Needles (8-12 cm) pointed, in pairs, thin, light green. Flowers separately arranged in male and female inflorescence on the same plant. Flowering period: April. Fruits cones (4-7 cm), elongate egg-shaped, yellow brown. Requires dry, sufficiently drained soils.
