Description
Small, compact, upright evergreen shrub (H 1-1,5 m, W up to 1 m). Leaves narrowly ovate to lanceolate (4-8 cm), smooth, glossy, at first light red, later bright green to dark green. Flowers in upright racemes (10-12 cm), bell-shaped (up to 0,5 cm), hanging; flower buds dark wine red, flowers dark red-pink, scented. Flowering period: March-May. Attracts butterflies and bees. Needs light, humus-rich, acidic, always moist, well-drained soils and a sheltered position. The variety is a result of crossing between Pieris japonica and P. japonica 'Valey Valentine'.
