Description
Medium-sized, bushy, broad deciduous shrub (H 1,5-2 m, W 1,5-2 m). Branches hanging in a distinctive, arching way. Leaves lanceolate (10-16 cm), light green, eventually with a slight red hue. Flowers in hanging spikes (up to 12 cm), white, surrounded by remarkable, distinctly pink-red to violet-red bracts. Flowering period: July-September. Fruits globose to egg-shaped (6-10 mm), fleshy, dark red to brown-red. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. May die to the ground in a cold winter, but next spring it forms new stems that develop the flowers in the same year.
