Description
Small, bushy, widely spreading deciduous shrub (H 1,3-1,5 m, W 1,5-2 m). Branches densely branched, thorny, dark grey-brown. Leaves broadly ovate (4-7 cm), with a serrate margin, smooth, glossy, dark green, underneath light green to light blue-green. Flowers cup-shaped (3-4 cm), semi-double, light orange to light pink-orange, with yellow anthers. Flowering period: March-May. Fruits ovate (4-6 cm), fleshy, green-yellow to yellow, scented, edible processed. Ripening time: September-October. Undemanding, long-lived shrub for moderately dry to moist soils and sunny sites. Easily withstands cold, heat, occasional drought and urban conditoins. Chaenomeles × superba is a cross C. japonica × C. speciosa.
