Description
Small, slow growing deciduous tree (H 7-10 m, W 4-5 m). Crown ovate to broadly spherical, eventually irregular, picturesque. Bark white with black spots, roughly fissured. Young shoots dark brown to grey, glossy. Branches open to distinctly hanging. Leaves broadly triangular to rhomboid (3-7 cm), with pointed tip, with a slightly serrate margin, at first dark coppery-red, later dark violet-red to brown-green; autumn colour bright red. Flowers tiny, in hanging yellow-green inflorescence, catkins. Flowering period: April. Undemanding tree, adaptable to different soils, withstands occasional drought and urban conditoins.
