Description
Small deciduous tree or large shrub (4-6 m), of slow, spreading growth (up to 6 m). Old branches horizontal or slightly hanging. Bark on young shoots red, later grey. Leaves broadly ovate (7-13 cm), dark green, underneath grey, autumn colour brown-red to rusty brown. Flowers outstandingly numerous, in tiny round inflorescence, surrounded by 4 wide, white bracts (up to 6 cm). Fruits globose (1,5 cm), fleshy, with long petioles, raspberry red, ornamental. Attracts birds. Needs light, well-drained soils and permanent moisture.
