Description
Small, upright, slow growing deciduous tree (H 7-9 m, W 3-5 m). Crown pyramidal to broadly oval. Branches widely spreading. Leaves broadly ovate (3-7 cm), smooth, dark green, autumn colour orange to red. Flowers numerous, in loose clusters, star-shaped (2-3 cm), simple, in buds light pink, open white. Flowering period: April. Fruits rare; elongate round (1 cm), fleshy, red to black-red. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. A tough, undemanding plant, grows well also in poor soils; normally withstands wind, cold, heat, drought and urban conditoins. Amelanchier × grandiflora is a cross between A. arborea and A. laevis.
