Description
Large, upright, bushy, relatively fast growing deciduous shrub (H 3-5 m, W 3-4 m). Crown broadly ovate to rounded, dense. Bark on young shoots light brown-grey, slightly hairy, later grey to brown-grey, glabrous. Leaves broadly egg-shaped (8-14 cm), somehow leathery, rough, mid to dark green, lighter and densely hairy beneath. Flowers in dense, half-round inflorescence, simple (1 cm), white. Flowering period: May. Fruits elongate globose (0,8 cm), fleshy, bright red to black-blue. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding shrub, grows well in ful sun or half-shade, in dry to moderately moist soils, also in calcareous soils.
