Large, broad, bushy, fast growing deciduous tree (H 25-35 m, W 15-20 m). Crown broadly conical, pyramidal, at maturity dome-shaped. Bark on young shoots red-brown to olive-green. Older bark grey-brown, fissured. Branches upright to open, later hanging. Leaves broad, heart-shaped (5-12 cm), dark green; underneath light green, with yellow-white hairs in vein axils; autumn colour yellow. Flowers in light, hanging inflorescence (3-7 flowers), simple, pale yellow, with numerous anthers, scented. Flowering period: June. Fruits dry, ovate to round (0,6 cm), felty, grey-brown. Ripening time: September-October. A tough, adaptable species, withstands occasional drought and urban conditoins. Requires moderately moist, not too dry soils and warm sites.
