Description
Small, weeping, widely spreading deciduous tree (H 3-6 m, depands as well on staking, W 6-8 m). Crown broadly dome-shaped, irregular, picturesque. Branches widely spreading, hanging. Bark dark grey, smooth, later longitudinaly lightly fissured. Leaves ovate (5-10 cm), with a finely serrate margin, light green, autumn colour yellow. Male and female flowers separate, on the same plant; male flowers yellow, in hanging catkins, female green. Flowering period: April. Fruits hard dry nutlets, winged (3 cm). Ripening time: October. Undemanding, tough, long-lived tree. Easily withstands drought, wind, heat, short periods of flooding, urban conditions and pruning.
