Description
Large, dense, upright evergreen shrub or a small tree (H 5-8 m, W 3-5 m), crown narrowly pyramidal. Branches partly upright, later horizontal, eventually slightly hanging, bark dark olive green, on older branches grey, young shoots dark violet. Leaves elongate ovate (6-9 cm), leathery, smooth, with a spiny margin, glossy, variegated, dark green, with cream white margin. Only female flowers, unremarkable; needs a polinator for producing fruits. Fruits globose (4-6 mm), fleshy, smooth, glossy bright red, autumn and winter attraction. Ripening time: September-October. Attracts birds. Needs a sheltered position.
