Description
Large, dense, upright, slow growing evergreen shrub or a small tree (H 4-6 m, W 3-4 m), crown narrowly pyramidal. Branches partly upright, later horizontal, eventually slightly hanging, bark dark olive green, on older branches grey. Leaves ovate to broadly lanceolate (4-7 cm), leathery, smooth, with a spiny margin, glossy, variegated, at first delicately pink, later dark green, with a cream white margin. Only female flowers, unremarkable; needs a polinator for producing fruits. Fruits globose (4-6 mm), fleshy, smooth, glossy bright red, autumn and winter attraction. Ripening time: September-October. Attracts birds. Needs a sheltered position.
