Small, widely spreading deciduous tree (H 6-10 m, W up to 8 m). Crown broad-round, dense, branches very thorny. Leaves broadly egg-shaped (up to 5 cm), 3 to 5-lobed, dark green, underneath blue-green, autumn colour yellow. Flowers in clusters, numerous (1,5 cm), white. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits globose (0,8-1,0 cm), smooth, dark red, with dry calyx. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds.
