Description
Medium-sized, upright deciduous tree (H 10-15 m, W 4-6 m). Crown broadly conical. Branches horizontal, later slightly hanging. Bark dark grey, roughly fissured. Young shoots grey-green, slightly sticky. Leaves broadly ovate (4-8 cm), to half pinnately dissected into several narrow, acute leaflets; dark green. Flowers not remarkable; male flowers in hanging yellow-brown catkins (5 cm), female flowers ovate (up to 0,5 cm), reddish. Flowering period: March. Fruits ovate (1,5-2 cm), cone-like, woody, black-brown. Undemanding tree, it grows well in different soil-types, also in poor and sandy soils; normally withstands urban conditions, polution, wind and occasional flooding.
