Description
Large, upright, bushy, evergreen ornamental shrub (H 3-4 m, W 2-3 m). Leaves egg-shaped to lanceolate (9-12 cm), smooth, glossy, at first dark red, later dark green, lighter beneath. Flowers in upright racemes (10-12 cm), simple (1 cm), white, scented. Flowering period: May. Fruits globose (1 cm), fleshy, glossy, dark red to black. Ripening time: August-September. Grows best in a sheltered position, protected from dry, cold wind, in moderately moist, deep, fertile soils. Easily withstands summer drought and heat, shade, pruning and salty soils.
