Description
Medium-sized, relatively fast growing deciduous tree (10-12 m, W 5-6 m). Crown narrowly pyramidal, regular. Branches upright to widely spreading, slightly hanging. Bark on young shoots reddish brown, slightly hairy; later grey, smooth to lightly fissured. Leaves broadly egg-shaped (6-12 cm), pinnately lobed, 4-lobed, glossy, dark green, underneath dense white hairy. Flowers in clusters (up to 10 cm), simple, cup-shaped (1 cm), cream white. Flowering period: May. Fruits in rich bunches, round (1-1,5 cm), fleshy, red-brown to orange-yellow; good for cooking and making jams. Ripening time: August-September, very high yield. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding tree, tolerates occasional drought, wind and urban conditions, grows well also in poor, heavy soils.
