Description
Large, broad, deciduous tree (H 12-18 m, W 10-15 m). Crown fen-shaped to broadly oval. Bark distinctly coppery-brown to orange-brown, glossy, it peels off decoratively in large, horizontal strips. Young shoots bright orange-brown, eventually with a white bloom. Branches upright to widely spreading, slightly hanging. Leaves ovate to egg-shaped (4-7 cm), with narrowly pointed tip, with a slightly serrate margin, mid dark green, lighter underneath, autumn colour bright yellow. Flowers tiny, in hanging yellow-green inflorescence, catkins. Flowering period: April. Undemanding tree, adaptable to different soils, normally withstands occasional flooding, cold, drought and urban conditoins.
