big-leaf hydrangea "Alpenglühen"

Small, dense, upright deciduous shrub (H 1,2 m, W up to 1,2 m). Leaves broadly egg-shaped (15-20 cm), with a roughly toothed margin, smooth, shining dark green. Flowers in round inflorescence (10-15 cm), only large, sterile flowers, bright red-pink, lilac to violet-blue. This variety produces flowers mostly on last-year growth. Flowering period: June-September. The flower-colour tends more toward the blue on acidic soils and more toward the pink on alkaline soils.
