Description
Small, compact, slow growing deciduous tree (8-10 m, W 4-5 m). Crown narrowly ovoid to rounded, dense. Branches upright to open. Bark on young shoots green-brown, later grey. Leaves broadly egg-shaped (7-15 cm), pinnately compound, partially lobed (4-6-lobed), glossy, dark green. Flowers in clusters (up to 10 cm), simple, cup-shaped (1 cm), white. Flowering period: May-June. Fruits in clusters, round (1 cm), fleshy, red. Ripening time: August-September. Attracts butterflies, bees and birds. Undemanding tree, withstands occasional drought and urban conditoins. Sorbus × thuringiaca is a cross between S. aria and S. aucuparia.
