Description
Large, bushy, fast growing deciduous shrub (H 5-7 m, W 4-5 m). Crown broadly ovate to rounded, dense. Branches upright to open. Bark on young shoots smooth, grey-brown, later grey. Leaves lanceolate (4-11 cm), with a slightly serrate margin, mid green, underneath bluish-green. Flowers in clusters, catkins (2-3 cm), silver-grey to yellow. Flowering period: March-April. Male and female inflorescence on different plants, dioecious plant. Seeds numerous, very tiny, with grey-white hairs. Ripening time: April-May. Requires humus-rich, always moist to wet soils, eventually near water.
